Recently Starcon was recognized at the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) annual Safety Awards celebration in Austin Texas. The AFPM safety awards program is part of a comprehensive safety program developed by AFPM’s Safety and Health Committee to promote accident prevention in the petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing industries as well as the contractors supporting them. The safety awards program is open to AFPM Regular member companies that operate a U.S. refinery or petrochemical manufacturing facility as well as AFPM associate member contractors that support them.

Along with success enjoyed with the recognition from the AFPM awards Starcon was also the recipient of the GOLD award at the recent Houston Business Roundtable (HBR) Safety Excellence Awards Banquet.
Since 1988, the Houston Business Roundtable has been recognizing Gulf Coast Area Industrial Contractors for their outstanding safety performance. This award process over the years has brought many of the Owner Companies in the Gulf Coast together with their Contractors in a cooperative effort to improve on-site safety, eliminate accidents, and most importantly, reduce injuries to employees. This year significant revisions were made to the safety award process to increase recognition and improve the sharing of best practices.
The HBR Safety Excellence Award process is a six month long effort and involves, literally, hundreds of volunteers and participants. It begins with a request for nominations, and this award is unique in that contractors must be nominated by their clients, the users of their services and there are no self-nominations. Contractor work sites are nominated where the client had verifiable safety performance data for the past calendar year.
Nominated contractors are put into award categories based on the type of work they do and in some cases by company size. The awards include a detailed submittal package provided by the contractor and culminate in a rigorous on site audit by HBR teams. Brett Richardson, Starcon General Manager of HSE stated “This is yet another validation and reinforcement of the type of success that can be accomplished when people with common values work towards the same goal of ensuring that No One Gets Hurt!”
Starcon has received 14 major Safety recognition awards over the last two weeks and earlier this year was recognized by the ABC as one of eleven contractors nationally to receive the ABC National Safety Excellence award.
Starcon President Peter Cianchette said, “I would personally like to thank each and every one of our Team Members and their families for actively continuing to promote our “No One Gets Hurt” culture. Your daily engagement in keeping your fellow Team Members safe has made the difference in everyone’s lives.”
